History
C A Detailing was founded in 1984 in the San Francisco Bay Area with three detailers using pencil & paper. For the next decade, while gradually expanding, we provided local fabricators and as well as customers around the US with excellent shop drawings. In 1995, we opened an office in the Philippines, still using drafting tables. In the late 90’s, we transitioned to Autocad, increasing our efficiency. After a decade or so, we implemented 3D modeling into our detailing.
Today
C A Detailing Co utilizes Tekla Structures 3D software and Autocad to build a model, produce accurate, aesthetically pleasing drawings, and coordinate with customers and other trades, often with BIM. Our projects have consisted of everything from a single line rail to a 4,000 ton structure, complete with miscellaneous metals.

- Often times, an RFI reply, or changes per design, will require revisions to our shop drawings, and even when requested in the afternoon, we can have them in your inbox by the following morning.

- All of our detailers are educated in engineering or architecture. Our project managers have over 17 years of detailing experience.
- Our roots come from using a drafting arm and a pencil, so drawing presentation is essential. Our staff are trained to create drawings optimal for a fabricator/erectors eyes.
- In the business since 1984, we know how to interpret design drawings, and know what RFIs to ask. In many cases, we will propose solutions based on our experience, while adhering to AISC standards.
- We specialize in detailing projects that many other structural detailers don’t prefer to do, such as retrofit work, wood/steel projects, and design-build architectural projects.
